If you like tales of places like Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, Waverly Hill Sanatorium, or Danvers Lunatic Asylum this read will be right up your alley. That aside, I can truly understand what scares other people and I know many that would be unable to finish this book on creepy factor alone. As my friends and family would say, I am beyond hard to scare. I will be honest I am forever in search of a good scare. The cover of Asylum, however, gave me an excited tingling in my brain that shouted read it, read it, read it. I think like many readers the cover draws me in and makes me want to read. The cover was spot on giving the reader the feeling that creepy secrets mixed with a hint of madness wait within. ![]()

This fact might also have played a significant role the process of titling the book. ![]() Dreiser’s sister Emma provided the content for the plot of the novel by having experienced a rather identical fate the protagonist Carrie Meeber does (Lehan 1). Sister Carrie by Theodore Dreiser which is considered one of the most important city novels in American literature deals with the young country girl Carrie Meeber, who moves to the big city where she starts realizing her own American Dream. "Gotham by Gaslight" also inspired a follow-up story in Augustyn and artist Eduardo Barreto's tale "Master of the Future." Now, in the latest DC Comics Animated Original Movies installment, both of the famous "Elseworlds" stories come to life in a unique way while also giving fans a new spin on the tale. That is my overriding thought after reading her autobiographical look at poverty – Lowborn. I want to give Kerry Hudson a massive cuddle. She revisits the towns she grew up in to try to discover what being poor really means in Britain today and whether anything has changed.
